Alex Aizpuru ‘Etxaun’, a 30-year-old from Azpeitia, was tragically shot in broad daylight, leaving the community in shock. He had been working as a taxi driver for just over a year and was often seen at the Mendizabal bar in Landeta with friends. Coming from a well-known family in the area, he was the second son of a prominent local builder. «His family is well-connected in Urola, which is why they are widely known,» a local bar patron stated. In fact, Alex himself had managed a popular nightclub in the Landeta neighbourhood, doubling as a DJ.
His passion for DJing started early, as he developed an interest in electronic music at 14 and began spinning progressive sessions. By 16, he ventured into the techno world, while his initial forays were tied to other sounds within the electronic scene, like bumping, which he mixed on vinyl.
Over the years, he performed at some of the most renowned music venues in the Basque region, including Txitxarro, Dabadaba, and Pagoa. At 20, he took over the Inox club in Azpeitia, hosting artists such as Indira Paganotto, Digitaria, and Rex the Dog.
An entrepreneur from a young age, Alex also ran a jet ski business in Ibiza, where he frequently visited and once lived. Known as ‘Etxaun’, he had a longstanding passion for cars, even competing in car rallies like the Azkoitia Rally with a Citroen Saxo VTS he personally tuned.
Returning to Azpeitia, he acquired a taxi license over a year ago, becoming a familiar sight in the local streets as a taxi driver.
Friends and acquaintances describe him as “a very sporty guy and a friend to his friends.” “He often went to the gym and kept fit.” Known for his sports skills, “he liked motorbikes and mountain biking,” a friend recalled.
